Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- The 12th national Taekwon-Do championship for Jongilbong Cup was held recently with success amid deep interests of the martial art players and sports fans of the DPRK.

The North Hwanghae Provincial Taekwon-Do Team has been known throughout the country as a competent one for the victories won by it in all contests since its formation. In the recent championship, too, it ranked first on the gold medal table.

Jang Tong So, head of the team, said in an interview with KCNA:

In the recent championship, too, our players swept the gold medals in the individual and team pattern competitions by giving full play to their ability.

In the past our team has taken part in various national and international competitions including the national martial art championship for "September 10 Prize", the national Taekwon-Do technical renovation contests, world junior Taekwon-Do championships and Asian Taekwon-Do Championship, winning nearly 300 gold medals and 10-odd trophy cups.

Our team has not conceded the first place in total points in the national Taekwon-Do championships for Jongilbong Cup by displaying the polished technique and collective spirit from Juche 92 (2003) when it was formed.

Our capabilities were showed to the full in international games.

Our players placed first at the 6th and 7th world junior Taekwon-Do championships and the 4th Asian Taekwon-Do Championship to hoist the flag of the DPRK and glorify the honor of Taekwon-Do cradle-land.

At the 3rd International Martial Arts Games, our Taekwon-Doists (three players) bagged many gold medals by playing the games with confidence in sure victory and grit and thus placed first in standings of the countries.

Player Ri Hyang Mi, youngest as she was in age, career and game experience, beat the opponents by displaying her fortes and clinched three gold medals and was awarded top technical prize of the Asian Taekwon-Do Championship.

Over the years the team has produced a Merited Athlete, masters of sports, best coaches and players of the DPRK and lots of fine players who distinguished themselves in international competitions.

We will in the future, too, make every possible effort to develop the Taekwon-Do, traditional martial arts of the Korean nation, and to register fine results in all games.
