KCTU Calls General Strike
Pyongyang, July 23 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions declared it would call a general strike in all the areas of south Korea including Seoul and Kyonggi Province from July 22.

The KCTU called a press conference in Seoul on July 21. It said that the general strike is an action in protest against the authorities' suppression of unionists of Ssangyong Motor Co. and their moves to railroad "MB evil bills" including the bill on the revision of the "law on part-time job" and the "bill on media."

The KCTU charged that the authorities' merciless suppression of unionists of Ssangyong Motor Co. indicates that they have no intention to settle the situation.

Recalling that the wife of a unionist committed a suicide in protest against the suppression, the organization declared it was obviously murder by the side of the company owner and the authorities.

It accused the "Grand National Party" of working hard to ram the evil bills through the current "extraordinary session of the National Assembly" at any cost despite the unanimous opposition of the people.

The KCTU warned that it would launch an all-out anti-"government" struggle if the authorities railroad the evil bills through the NA and persist in their crackdown upon the actions of unionists of the above-said company.
