New Botanical Garden at Foot of Mt. Paektu
Pyongyang, July 23 (KCNA) -- An army-people botanical garden has made its appearance at the foot of Mt. Paektu in the northern tip of Korea.

More than 300,000 tree saplings of various species were planted at the foot of Hohang Pass where one can enjoy a bird's-eye view of Samjiyon county town, forming a wonderful flora.

Lots of trees peculiar to the area of Mt. Paektu including larch, rowan, azalea and royal azalea grow in the garden.

There are not a small number of trees rare to be seen in the area such as wild pear tree, oak tree and linden tree. It has also fields of edible herbs, medicinal herbs and plants with beautiful flowers.

Good species of trees suitable to the northern alpine region are also growing well.

Scores of species of tree saplings and flower shrubs grow thick in the vast area of 20-odd hectares with tall trees as fence.

Two peculiar natural overlooking stands have been arranged in the garden furnished with all conditions necessary for its management.

The botanical garden built in the highest area of Korea comprehensively shows all kinds of trees growing in the northern areas.
