Genaro Ledesma Izquieta, chairman of the People's Front of Workers, Peasants and Students of Peru and first vice-chairman of the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Committee to Support the Reunification of Korea, Emilia Fernandes, member of the Senate of National Congress of Brazil, and Jesus Antonio Carlos Hernandez, general secretary of the Central Committee of the People's Socialist Party of Mexico, were elected co-chairmen of the preparatory committee at the inaugural ceremony.

A declaration was read out at the ceremony. It said that preparatory committees in different countries of the American region would briskly organize diverse events, closely cooperating with one another under the coordinated guidance of the regional preparatory committee.

It called for forming a worldwide preparatory committee to mark the centenary of birth of the President grouping preparatory committees of different countries and regions.
