The statement said that all the people are declaring the evil law on media, which the group railroaded through the "National Assembly" through violent and high-handed actions, null and void, not recognizing it.

It noted:

Lurking behind the above-said action taken by the group in defiance of the people's will is its sinister intention to put the media under its control in a bid to blindfold their eyes and stop their ears and gag them and render the members of society benighted.

Another aim sought by the group through the action is to use the conservative media for misleading the public opinion in a bid to strengthen the repressive rule and legalize the unpopular policy in favor of a tiny handful of privileged circles.

It called upon all the patriotic people to stage a nation-wide movement for issuing declarations on the situation in unity and thus force Lee Myung Bak to step down and get the "Grand National Party" disbanded.

In another development, the People's Council for Public Welfare and Democracy and the Civic and Public Organizations Network for Defending Democracy and Checking Suppression under the Pretext of Security also held a joint press conference in Seoul on the same day to denounce the GNP for ramming the evil law on media through the NA. The south Korean Press Trade Union held a meeting to declare a struggle to get the above-said evil law repealed.
