Pyongyang, July 28 (KCNA) -- The National Classics Institute of the Academy of Social Sciences of the DPRK has recently brought out the Large Dictionary of Chinese Characters. The researchers of the institute studied and analyzed hundreds of classical documents published at home and abroad including Rijo Sillok (Chronicles of the Ri Dynasty) and the 80,000 Blocks of the Complete Collection of Buddhist Scriptures. On this basis, they collected more than 308,500 vocabularies and more than 600,000 examples to compile the large dictionary which can be used as Chinese-character wordbook and dictionary at the same time. The dictionary of ten volumes gives tens of thousands of Chinese characters as entry characters and hundreds of thousands of the words written in Chinese characters as entry vocabularies which are used in the linguistic life of the Korean people and the national classics. The dictionary firmly maintains the Juche character and principle of historicism in the selection of entry characters and vocabularies and their interpretation, ensures scientific accuracy and popularity and gives possible origin of words and correct examples. For the sake of convenience of readers in finding the entry characters and vocabularies easily, the dictionary from volume one to nine arranges the entry characters according to radical and in line with the number of strokes in the same radical and in the Korean alphabetical order in the same number of strokes. And the tenth volume contains radical index and strokes order index so as to find the entry characters and entry vocabularies in various ways. The publication of the grand dictionary has laid a solid scientific foundation for successfully arranging the valuable national classical legacies created by the Korean people and studying in depth and systemizing history, folklore and histories of other fields. |
