Pyongyang, July 29 (KCNA) -- 34 civic and public, youth and students and religious organizations of south Korea including the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration and the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification held a meeting for peace against a war around the U.S. embassy in Seoul on July 26. The participants in the meeting denounced the Lee Myung Bak group for persistently kicking up the racket of "sanctions" against the DPRK and staging joint military exercises targeted against it these days, pursuant to the U.S. policy. They said that it is necessary to frustrate the Lee group's reckless moves and implement the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration by the concerted efforts of the Koreans, adding this is the only way for them to achieve the independent reunification of the nation and enjoy a happy life. They called upon all the people to work harder to achieve peace on the Korean Peninsula. A letter of protest to the new U.S. administration was read out at the meeting. The letter held that the arch criminal rendering the situation on the peninsula tense is the U.S. keen to mount a preemptive nuclear attack on the DPRK and the Lee regime busy escalating the confrontation with it by strengthening the sycophantic and humiliating "alliance" with Washington and fully participating in the PSI, pursuant to its policy. It urged the U.S. and the south Korean authorities to drop the hostile policy towards the DPRK, immediately cancel the plan to stage Ulji Freedom Guardian joint military exercises and make efforts to provide a fundamental proposal for the peaceful solution of the Korean issue. At the end of the meeting, the participants handed the letter to the U.S. embassy. |
