Kim Jong Il in the work formulated the three principles of national reunification, the ten-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation and the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo, put forth by President Kim Il Sung, as the three charters for Korea's reunification and clarified in detail the basic principle and target for the reunification and the way for its realization, the statement noted, terming the work a great document which indicated the way for achieving the independent and peaceful reunification of the country by the concerted efforts of the Korean people.

It stressed that he overcame difficulties with his Songun politics while leading the Korean people's "Arduous March" and the forced march and increased the national defence capability to protect the sovereignty and peace of the country.

He wisely led the struggle to frustrate the moves of the anti-reunification forces and provide the inter-Korean dialogue and cooperation on the principle of national independence, it said, adding:

Today the inter-Korean relations have become tense again and the suppression of the pro-reunification patriotic forces is being intensified in south Korea. The world public opinion should be vigilant against such developments and extend full support and encouragement to the Korean people in the struggle to realize the independent and peaceful reunification of the country by the Korean nation itself.
