It was once a barren land unfit for habitation where dire poverty had prevailed for many years. But today its looks have changed beyond recognition.

There are in Taehongdan well-furnished potato research institute, potato processing factory, pig farms, beautiful sea of potatoflowers, comprehensive mechanization of farming work, well-off living and wonderful bright lights in the evening. All these are features to be seen only in the county today.

All the farming--ploughing, sowing and spraying of agricultural chemicals-- is done by machines.

The county harvests scores of tons of potatoes per hectare every year and lorries carry the potatoes in time.

The potato processing factory processes yielded potatoes within two months.

The factory produces various processed potato products including starch, starch syrup, behydrated starch noodle and liquor to supply the county inhabitants every month.

Taehongdan is crowded with officials coming to learn potato farming experience, people calling on relatives, those coming to create literary and fine art pieces about the graceful sea of potatoflowers and the bright lights in the evening.
