White Pine-nut Tree Propagated in North Hwanghae Province
Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- White pine-nut tree which was found in Rinsan County, North Hwanghae Province, DPRK for the first time has been propagated in cities and counties of the province.

The tree, which is regarded as a special mutation phenomenon in the vegetable kingdom, is a new species of oil-bearing tree native to Korea.

It bears white seed. Its nutshell is thinner, flesh is 1.25 times and output is 1.5 times compared with other pine-nut seeds.

The ordinary pine-nut trees bear fruits 15 years after transplantation, but the white pine-nut tree produces a result in six or seven years.

Rinsan County has conducted research into extensive propagation of the white pine-nut tree of high-yield variety in cooperation with the Research Institute of Economic Value Forest under the State Academy of Sciences, thus registering many successes.

In 2008 and 2009 alone, lots of white pine-nut trees were planted in Sohung, Phyongsan, Yonthan, Pongsan, Unpha, Hwangju, Suan and other counties.

Having set a goal to plant the white pine-nut trees in all mountains in the province, North Hwanghae Province is directing efforts to manure and tend white pine-nut trees.
