Pyongyang, August 14 (KCNA) -- August 15 is a significant day when the Korean nation was liberated from the colonial yoke of Japan. Greeting the anniversary every year, the Korean people with deep emotion recollect the immortal feats of President Kim Il Sung, the anti-Japanese legendary hero, who led the final offensive operation for national liberation to victory and defeated the Japanese imperialist robbers in August Juche 34 (1945). Entering 1945, a positive offensive operation of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army and a nation-wide resistance combined with the former were launched in accordance with the final offensive operational plan that the President had worked out in detail with his sharp penetration into the rapidly changing political situation in which the Japanese imperialists were faced with the crisis of final doom. The battle formation of the KPRA units was rearranged and fine military and political workers were appointed chiefs in charge of major cities and regions. The President planned to personally advance into Pyongyang and the South Phyongan Provincial area to command the general operation. Being assigned to the task of assault prior to the final offensive, the members of the KPRA simultaneously raided various strategic points of the enemy in the night of August 8, thus creating favorable conditions for breaking through the enemy's frontier fortresses at a blow. On August 9 an order of general offensive was issued to the units of the KPRA. The KPRA units, which had taken the Kanbaeksan secret camp as offensive position for the final operation, waged battles to seize various provinces together with small units, groups and national resistance organizations active in the homeland. The units on the Tuman River broke through the enemy's frontier fortresses in a twinkle and liberated the Kyongwon and Kyonghung areas. They continued to expand battle results towards Sonbong, liberating broader areas of the country. Some units, acting as an advance party of the landing force, landed at Sonbong and advanced to the area of Chongjin. After liberating Jinchang, Dongning, Muling and Mudanjiang, other units gave fatal blows to the Kwantung Army, pursuing the enemy troops and arrived on the other side of the Tuman River. The Rajin People's Armed Corps liberated Rajin and the Kkachibong Armed Corps Hoeryong by its own efforts. The resistance organizations in South Hamgyong Province stormed and destroyed many police stations and other ruling organs of the enemy prior to the advance of the KPRA units. The resistance organizations in Cholwon and Popdong in Kangwon Province and in Yomju and Sakju in North Phyongan Province also fought bravely to control the enemy. Thanks to the bold offensive of the KPRA and courageous fight of the people's resistance organizations of the country combined with the former, the Japanese imperialists surrendered unconditionally on August 15, 1945, a week after the operation against Japan started. At last the cause of national liberation for which the Korean nation had eagerly longed was realized brilliantly under the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung who led the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle to victory, going through the grim ordeals and difficulties for 20 years. |
