Pyongyang, August 14 (KCNA) -- Palhae (698-926), the proud successor to Koguryo, was well known in the world for its specialties. Among them, according to old records, are tangle of the South Sea, soybean malt of Chaeksong, deer of Puyo, pig of Makhil, horse of Solbin, hemp cloth of Hyonju, silk of Ryongju, iron of Wisong, rice of Rosong, goldfish of the Lake Mitha, plum of Hwando and pear of Rakyu. Bronze and fur goods of Palhae enjoyed a great popularity. The goods made with fur of sable, tiger, leopard, bear, white rabbit and other animals were exported in a big way not only to Tang and Japan, but also to central and west Asian countries. Renowned also were porcelains of various kinds, sizes, shapes, colors and patterns, gem stones of various kinds and their processed goods and quality building stones. A chest made with hwaok (a red gem stone), songphungsok (a transparent stone) and mano (a pink and white gem stone) was highly praised by foreigners for its artistic delicacy, formative gracefulness and substantial utility. Toys were main specialty, too. Many books, exclusively introducing Palhae's specialties, were on sale in Tang at that time. This shows Palhae had an economy developed in all fields including agriculture, stockbreeding, handicraft, fruit farming and fishery. |
