He saw to it that workers in the field of metal industry and related enterprises were invited to the grand evening of fireworks to mark significantly May Day, the international holiday of all the working people in the world, and a grand banquet was arranged in honor of them. He also enjoyed performances of the State Merited Chorus and the revolutionary opera "The Flower Girl" together with them.

He bestowed benevolent gifts on them when they returned to their working sites.

He told that workers of Jagang Province had not been invited to the May Day events, so he had to go and congratulate them and the great revolutionary upsurge would take place only when Kanggye rose up, before leaving for the faraway northern end.

When he gave field guidance to mines in the Komdok area, he went into underground cutting face thousands of foot deep, saying he should go wherever the workers were.
