Present there were officials of the Commonwealth of Independent States Regional Headquarters for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration including its Chairperson Jo Yun Hae, compatriots and the DPRK ambassador to Uzbekistan and staff members of his embassy.

On August 15 the participants laid a floral basket and bouquets before the full-length portrait of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il and paid high tribute to them.

There was a commemorative meeting on August 14.

The speaker at the meeting said that August 15 is the day when the President accomplished the historic cause of national liberation by leading the great anti-Japanese war to brilliant victory.

The successes being achieved in strengthening the military capability and building a great prosperous and powerful nation in the homeland would have been unthinkable without the Songun revolutionary leadership of Kim Jong Il, he said.

He stressed that all Koreans overseas should make positive contribution to the building of a thriving nation in the homeland, true to the Songun idea and leadership of Kim Jong Il.

The meeting was followed by a performance of compatriot artistes.

There were also a photo exhibition on the theme of "Kindling the Flames of Great Surge" and a film show.
