The DPRK's joining the NAM marked a very important occasion in injecting vitality into the unity of the movement and its strengthening and development and putting spurs to its dynamic advance along the road of independence against imperialism and peace against war, guided by its basic idea.

Thanks to the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung the danger of division created by the imperialists in the NAM in the past was removed and it could protect its idea and dynamically advance in conformity with its noble mission and objective.

The undying feats the President performed in strengthening and developing the NAM and carrying out the cause of global independence remain shining as ever thanks to General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

He has made sure that the national power of the country was increased in every way with the might of the Songun politics and peace and security on the Korean Peninsula were defended with powerful war deterrent, thereby making a great contribution to the cause of the NAM to achieve independence, peace and social progress and prosperity.

In order to protect the sovereignty of the nation and peace and security at the present stage where a fair international order desired by the NAM has not been rounded off and in the present world where the imperialist forces are using military blackmail and nuclear threat as an all-powerful lever for enforcing a strong-arm policy, it is necessary to have in place military deterrent for self-defence. This is a conclusion drawn by the DPRK in the fierce confrontation with imperialism.

The DPRK will as ever work hard to boost the unity and solidarity with the non-aligned countries in the idea of independence, peace and friendship and defend the sovereignty of the country, stability on the Korean Peninsula and peace in Asia and the rest of the world.
