The Suchon mineral spring in Sophyong-ri, Suan County of North Hwanghae Province is well known for its medicinal properties.

It is a sodium bicarbonate and calcium spring. It contains 2.2 grams of mineral matters, 2 grams of free carbonic acid and 61.22 milligrams of meta silicic acid per liter. Its main ion elements per liter are 1,586 milligrams of bicarbonate ion, 383.37 milligrams of sodium ion, 99.2 milligrams of calcium ion, 59.58 milligrams of magnesium ion and 7.26 milligrams of iron ion.

The temperature is 8 degrees C, pH value is 6.3 and the daily amount of eruption is 2.9 cubic meters.

It is a weak acid carbonated spring which controls gastric juice, promotes urination and intensifies metabolism.

It is efficacious for the treatment of chronic gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcer, chronic enteritis and colitis, chronic hepatitis, chronic cholecystitis and bile duct inflammation, chronic pyelitis and cystitis, urinary passage lithiasis, chronic bronchitis, chronic pharyngitis, slight diabetes, gout, hyperuricemia and others.

It is also good for allergic dermatitis.

The government has directed attention to the mineral spring so that a sanatorium was built near it for the health promotion of the people.
