Pyongyang, August 27 (KCNA) -- The Komdok area in the northeastern part of South Hamgyong Province is called as "Kumgol" (gold valley), "Tonsan" (mountain of money) and "Paekgumsan" (white gold mountain). It is abundant in lead, zinc and magnesite. There are the Ryongyang Mine, the Komdok Mining Complex and the Taehung Youth Hero Mine, which have greatest mineral deposits in the world. The Ryongyang Mine is endowed with magnesite ore. Even the stone powder on the road is also priceless. The Taehung Youth Hero Mine, which was developed on a full scale in the 1980s, can produce several million tons of magnesite ore in a chute. There is a peak with ore body exposed to the ground, the deposits of which is inexhaustible. The predecessor of the Komdok Mining Complex is the Komdok Mine. The place was called "Komidok" as the mountains spread out like spider's web. The mountains are rich in mineral deposits. Up to now the complex has excavated minerals tantamount to one of the spider's legs. Galena produced at the complex contains 30-odd precious metals including lead and zinc. The introduction of facilities based on latest science and technology makes it possible to increase the mineral production in mines and enterprises of this area and enables the smeltery to turn out products whose purity is higher than before. In particular, the complex has successfully realized the production of magnesia clinker entirely with domestic raw materials in a Juche-oriented way. The mines and enterprises in the area are striving hard to surpass the record production level of the past within a few years and to export quality mineral products to foreign countries. |
