Now that the separatist forces at home and abroad work hard to foster discord and mistrust and confrontation among members of the nation and divide and destabilize the patriotic forces for reunification it presents itself as an urgent task to achieve the great unity of the nation.

To work hard for national reunification represents the most patriotic struggle and a struggle for national unity is inseparable from the one for accomplishing the cause of national reunification. Therefore, whoever endeavors for great national unity becomes a patriot whereas whoever stands in the way of great national unity and seeks division is bound to be cursed as a traitor.

There took place the historic Pyongyang meeting between the north and the south which culminated in the adoption of the June 15 joint declaration. This brought a new era of independent reunification to this land, bringing about landmark successes in the cause of the great national unity and putting the cause of reunification on a new higher level. These are the brilliant fruition of the outstanding idea and leadership of Kim Jong Il, supreme incarnation of patriotism.

All the Koreans should put the wishes and interests common to the nation above anything else and subordinate everything to that purpose in a bid to achieve and consolidate the great unity and attain national reunification, the greatest desire of the nation, as early as possible, urges the article.
