New Stamp Issued
Pyongyang, September 1 (KCNA) -- A new stamp (a kind of souvenir sheet) reflecting the Monument to the Great Victory in the Battle in Northern Area of Korea has been brought out in the DPRK.

Carried in the souvenir sheet are a picture showing a battle scene of the volunteer army of Hamgyong Province against the Japanese invaders during the Imjin Patriotic War (1592-1598), a photo of Jong Mun Bu, commander of the volunteer army, and a stamp showing the monument erected in 1708 to convey the great victory of the army to the posterity.

The Japanese imperialists carried away the monument in Rimmyong, Kilju Sub-province (present Rimmyong-ri, Kim Chaek City, North Hamgyong Province) by brigandish means in 1906.

The people in the north and south of Korea won back the monument from Japan in Juche 94 (2005) with the concerted efforts under the idea of "by our nation itself". The DPRK government has restored the monument to the original state on the principle of historicism to preserve and manage it.
