Pyongyang, September 6 (KCNA) -- The South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration called a press conference in Seoul on Sept. 4 to denounce the south Korean authorities for laying hurdles in the way of exchange with the north. The committee referred to the fact that on Sept. 3 the "Ministry of Unification" selectively struck out Jong Tae Yon, co-executive chairman of the south side committee from the Solidarity for Progress of south Korea, and four others on the list of members of the south side delegation for working-level contact between the north and south side committees scheduled to take place in China. It deplored that the regime took the above-said action against the south side committee grouping south Koreans of various social standings in the wake of disallowing the working-contact of its affiliated scientific, youth and students and peasants headquarters with the north in July, thus persistently blocking social and cultural exchange. This action is little short of chilling the atmosphere of the recent moves to make a switchover in the inter-Korean relations, it said, demanding the authorities lift at once the action of restricting the activities of non-governmental organizations for no reason. The organization earnestly urged the authorities to opt for improving the inter-Korean relations. At the end of the conference, the organization submitted a written protest to the "Ministry of Unification". On Sept. 3 the committee held an emergency meeting for measures and expressed indignation at the authorities' unilateral decision devoid of any standards or objectivity. It stated it cannot but remain skeptical about how they intend to handle the inter-Korean issue. |
