After the collapse of socialism in various countries in the 1990s, the imperialists made desperate efforts to exterminate socialism on the globe, loudly talking about the "end of socialism" and the "victory of capitalism".

In the teeth of rigorous trials in the recent years gigantic land rezoning projects have been done vigorously, many monumental edifices of the Songun era including power stations and modern production bases constructed in different parts of the country and the economy put on a firm uptrend.

The successful launch of the artificial satellite Kwangmyongsong No. 2 in April last fully demonstrated the national power of Songun Korea and the rapid development of space science and technology.
