KCNA Slams Japan's Moves to Develop Space Weapons

Pyongyang, September 22 (KCNA) -- Japan recently launched a large carrier rocket H2B-1. It was reported that Japan would continue launching such rockets under the pretext of launching space cargo vehicles in the future. This is a very dangerous development as it indicates that Japan is pushing forward the moves to develop a large-size space weapon system in real earnest. Japan's large carrier rockets are part of the space weapon system. Japan has systematically stepped up the development of large carrier rockets, regarding the process of rounding off the space weapon system as an essential course of turning Japan into a military giant. In 1969 Japan concluded an agreement on cooperation in the field of conquering space with the United States, thus paving the way for exploring the field of space rocket technology. In 1984 it decided to develop a "completed prototype rocket" capable of easily converting itself into an intercontinental ballistic missile. As a result, Japan launched the domestically made large carrier rocket H-2 in 1994. Last year Japan adopted even the "basic law on space" which defines the use of space for military purposes as a policy, thus laying a legal groundwork for accelerating the development of the space weapon system. Japan has consolidated the material, technological and practical foundations for deploying space weapons on the basis of the steady improvement of the performance of such large carrier rockets as H-2 and H2B-1. As seen above, the above-said moves of Japan are closely linked with its wild ambition for militarizing space and turning it into a military power. The recent launch of H2B-1 goes to prove that Japan's moves for converting itself into a military power by dint of military edge in space have reached an ever more reckless phase. The international community should take these moves very serious. The UN Security Council, however, persistently and unreasonably took issue with the DPRK's legitimate launch of a satellite for the space development for peaceful purposes, while keeping mum about the above-said moves of Japan. As already clarified, the DPRK acceded to the international treaties on space, prompted by its noble aim to boost international confidence and cooperation in the fields of research into space science and satellite launch before launching satellite Kwangmyongsong-2 on a fair and aboveboard basis and making public information about it as required by the treaties. But Japan launched four spy satellites by H-2A in 2003 and 2007 in crude violation of the provisions of the international treaties and has so far kept information about them secret. Had the UNSC have even an iota of impartiality, it should have taken issue with Japan's launch of those satellites and their performance before anything else as they have disturbed the world peace and security by perpetrating espionage from space, a treasure of whole mankind. The UNSC, however, has not yet made any apology for kicking up a ruckus over the DPRK's satellite launch only. This is, indeed, an entirely unjust behavior. The UNSC should take strong measures to check Japan's moves to develop the space weapon system so as to fulfill its duty to contribute to the world peace and security on the principle of impartiality. |
