Pyongyang, September 24 (KCNA) -- There stands in the campus of the Mangyongdae Revolutionary School a statue of President Kim Il Sung, who led the brutal Japanese imperialist troops one million strong by the nose, with field-glasses in one hand and with his white mantle flying in the wind. The statue is the first of its kind in Korea which was built on the initiative of an anti-Japanese heroine Kim Jong Suk. She saw to it that children of revolutionary martyrs who fell in the anti-Japanese war were sought before her family and relatives after the liberation of the country and visited the Mangyongdae Revolutionary School frequently to take warm care of their study and life. The bereaved children always longed for the President, calling him father. Seeing through their mind, she initiated the construction of the statue and guided the project energetically. At that time Wang Yi-zhi, wife of Chinese Zhou Bao-zhong related to the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, visited the DPRK and went round the school. Deeply moved to see that the school children followed her calling her mother, Wang told her that it would be good to build her statue in the school. However, she told her to the following effect: We must not do so. These are the real children of the General who will uphold him as their parents did. A statue of General Kim Il Sung should be erected in the school, which will give greater pleasure to the school-children. When the new school buildings were under construction, she came there again. She solved all the problems arising in the construction of the statue, saying to officials that the children wanted to meet the General and always live in his bosom and that they should let the school-children live, looking up to the image of the General anytime by building his statue there. She did her best to construct his statue on the highest plane and made a frequent visit to the construction site, carrying with her vegetables and fruits she had cultivated by herself. It was on October 24, Juche 37 (1948) that the statue of the President was erected in the campus of the school as the first of its kind in Korea amid her overcautious loving care. Kim Jong Suk made all her efforts to implant in the minds of the bereaved children of revolutionaries the faith that they would trust and follow only President Kim Il Sung and stoutly bring up the generation of the Songun revolution. Her exploits, indeed, will shine long in the annals of the country. |
