Pyongyang, September 25 (KCNA) -- Ten years have passed since the International Martial Arts Games Committee was founded. Sok Min Chol, vice-chairman of the Executive Committee of the IMAGC told KCNA that Pyongyang is the international hub of martial arts, adding: The committee, organized in Argentina in September of Juche 88 (1999), had its head-office in Canada temporarily. At that time it was raised as an important issue where to establish the center for promoting the unity of the martial arts players and developing martial arts movement in accordance with their ideal. The DPRK government saw to it that the IMAGC had its head-office in Pyongyang. The 1st and 2nd international martial arts games were held in Pyongyang in 2004 and 2006 with a large attendance. And a torch lit on Mt. Paektu was carried to the flame cauldron of martial arts near the Taekwon-Do Hall. It became a practice to ignite the beacon with a torch from Pyongyang in every game season. Last year, the torch lit in Pyongyang was brought to Bangkok, the venue of the 3rd International Martial Arts Games. Now the IMAGC has 12 international martial arts event federations and nearly 40 national martial arts games committees. Martial arts athletes in the DPRK are striving to develop martial arts movement according to their ideal and purpose. |
