Pyongyang, September 29 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Tuesday dedicates a signed article to World Maritime Day. The daily in the article says that the theme of World Maritime Day this year is "Climatic change: A challenge for IMO, too," adding that the climatic changes caused by global warming are adversely affecting the human life and the socio-economic development. They are causing a lot of countries of the world to suffer natural calamities due to heat waves and draught, torrential rain and flood, etc., the article notes, and goes on: The DPRK joined the IMO in April 1986. Vigorous endeavors are being made to ensure maritime safety and prevent sea pollution, etc. under the care of the Party and government of the DPRK where such popular policies as regarding the people's lives as the most precious ones are enforced. In connection with the IMO's enforcement of the system for discerning and tracking ships sailing from far away from July 1, the DPRK set up a control center for ships and put it into operation. The DPRK also acceded to the "International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage 2001," prompted by the desire to protect the sea environment. A work is now brisk worldwide to ensure maritime security and prevent sea pollution on the occasion of the above-said day. |
