Leading newspapers Sunday stresses this in signed articles dedicated to the 2nd publication anniversary of the October 4 declaration.

The declaration stipulated that the north and the south would defend and positively implement the June 15 joint declaration, Rodong Sinmun notes, and says:

The October 4 declaration shines as the banner of independent reunification for carrying into practice the June 15 joint declaration as it reconfirmed the idea of "By our nation itself" whose validity and vitality have been clearly proven through practices in the June 15 era of reunification and called for solving the problem of inter-Korean relations, the reunification problem, on the basis of this idea.

It is quite possible for the Korean nation to open up a new era of independent reunification, peace and prosperity when it acts as indicated by the October 4 declaration.

It is an urgent requirement of the reality to develop the inter-Korean relations from a new angle and achieve the independent and peaceful reunification of the country under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration.

All compatriots in the north and the south and overseas should turn out as one in the nationwide struggle to implement the inter-Korean declarations, with awareness and faith that the destiny of the nation depends on preserving and implementing the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, its action programme.

Minju Joson states that it is the steadfast stand of the DPRK to expand and develop the inter-Korean relations and achieve the independent reunification, peace and prosperity by thoroughly implementing the inter-Korean declarations. The implementation of the declarations entirely depends on the stand and attitude of the south side, it says.
