Opening addresses were made by Choe Tae Yong, secretary general of the DPRK Standardization Commission, and Reinhard Weissinger, representative of the International Organization for Standardization.

The speakers said that the symposium would provide an opportunity to get broad understanding and knowledge of the global trend in the field of standardization for protecting ecological environment, promoting people's health and ensuring the security of their life and establishing a system for preserving and managing information and achievements and experience gained in this field.
