Referring to the detailed content of the Declaration for Development of North-South Relations and Peace and Prosperity, the statement said:

The June 15 North-South Joint Declaration based on the idea of "By our nation itself", the spirit of national independence, serves as the corner stone of national reunification recognized by all Koreans in the north and the south.

The October 4 declaration is a programme for implementing the June 15 joint declaration, a landmark for Korea's reunification.

The publication of this declaration gave the Korean nation greater confidence and optimism in the reunification of the country.
