Maneuver of U.S. and S. Korea Obstructive to Improvement of Inter-Korean Relations Flayed

Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- A madcap "special naval operation exercise" had been staged for four days in the waters of the West Sea of south Korea since October 13 with the south Korean Navy and "George Washington", super-large nuclear powered carrier of the U.S. Navy, involved. This joint war maneuver comes under fire by signed commentaries of leading papers Saturday. Rodong Sinmun observes: This saber rattling staged in the sea and air under the simulated conditions of "coping with someone's intrusion into coastal waters" was, in a nutshell, a desperate move of the bellicose forces at home and abroad to bring the inter-Korean relations back to the orbit of deterioration. It has become a trend of the situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula to settle problems through dialogue and cooperation, not by confrontation and pressure. It is needless to say that the above-said joint maneuver staged by the militaries of south Korea and the U.S in the West Sea is a deliberate provocation intended to hamstring the efforts to improve the inter-Korean relations. The atmosphere of the process to improve the inter-Korean relations arranged with so much effort should be preserved and no one should be allowed to vitiate it and this environment is what the times and all Koreans desire, the daily notes, warning that it is ridiculous to stem the trend of the times while working hard to mislead the public opinion through such provocation. Minju Joson says that the bellicose forces of south Korea and the U.S. are leaving no means untried to derail the inter-Korean relations from the track of normalization but no force on earth can stem the trend of the times towards reconciliation and cooperation, peace and reunification. |
