Officials Should Mix Themselves with People
Pyongyang, October 19 (KCNA) -- It was one day in March Juche 48 (1959). President Kim Il Sung was on the way to give field guidance to then Sonbong County, North Hamgyong Province. Seeing a lake through the car window, he got the driver to stop the car.

He got off the car and asked the local officials about their plan of using the lake, fishes inhabiting there and its bed conditions.

Having no knowledge about them, they were bewildered.

At that moment he noticed villagers standing on roadside to greet him and called them to him.

The President asked an old man how long he had lived there and how the people there had lived.

After listening to him, the President inquired what kinds of fishes were living in the lake.

The old man and other villagers told him about the history of the lake and the species of fishes living there as they knew.

After listening to them, he slowly walked on the lake-shore and stared at the calm surface of the lake. Then, he asked them again about how deep the lake was and why its water was muddy.

An old man explained that the bed of the lake was covered with sand and mud and the water became muddy with the flow of the Tuman River water into it, as well as its depth.

The President earnestly admonished the officials, saying: If you have something to know, you should go among people. This will lead you to learn it.

The lifetime motto of the President that "The people are my God" will be conveyed long along with this story.
