Promising Wrestler

Pyongyang, October 29 (KCNA) -- A DPRK wrestler won a gold medal in the World Wrestling Championship held in Denmark some time ago. He is 22-year-old Yang Kyong Il of the sports team of Kim Il Sung University who defeated all the rivals on overwhelming points at the 55kg category freestyle event. When he was young, he, encouraged by his parents, sports fans, joined the football circle of the Sosong District Juvenile Physical Training School in Pyongyang. It was at the age of 11 when he began learning wrestling. He became a boy wrestling ace when he was 12 years old and took part in the A-class contest from the age of 18. His forte is good physical condition, accurate judgment, swift reaction and skilful application of any techniques including leg-hold and body throw under any situation. He won gold medals at the 46kg category event of the Sakha international contest held in Russia and 55kg category event qualifying for the 29th Olympic Games and a silver medal in the 55kg category event of the Asian Wrestling Championship held in Thailand in May this year. His holding the world championship gives a new confidence and vitality to the Korean wrestlers. It is expected that he will prove successful in international contests including the 2012 London Olympic Games. |
