End to Blockade against Cuba Called for

Pyongyang, November 4 (KCNA) -- A DPRK delegate, addressing the plenary meeting of the 64th UN General Assembly on Oct. 28, said that the U.S. unilateral economic, trade and financial blockade against Cuba has lasted for half a century, adding that this blockade imposed by the U.S. under the pretext of "accelerating the democratic transition" of Cuba is aimed to bring down the social system chosen by the Cuban government and people. Noting that this is a wanton violation of the principles of respect for sovereignty of states, territorial integrity and non-interference in other's internal affairs stipulated in the UN Charter and international laws, he continued: The U.S. blockade against Cuba is a silent economic war against the Cuban people as well as an illegal and inhuman criminal act which has no validity from the political, legal and moral points of view. Entirely unjustifiable and intolerable are extraterritorial and unilateral coercive measures taken to impose political, economic and social systems upon others on the basis of a specified country's view on value to attain one's sinister political purpose. It is the consistent stand of the DPRK government to oppose all forms of interference, threat of use of force and sanctions against sovereign states. The DPRK delegation strongly urges the U.S. to put an unconditional and immediate end to its unilateral economic, trade and financial blockade against Cuba in line with all relevant resolutions adopted at the UN General Assembly and make compensation to Cuba for all economic losses suffered by it so far. The delegation voices full support to the adoption of a resolution on putting an end to the blockade against Cuba submitted to the meeting and extends firm support and solidarity to the Cuban government and people in their just cause of defending the country's sovereignty and achieving economic development and social progress and prosperity. |
