Kim Jong Il Inspects Power Station and Cooperative Farm
Pyongyang, November 7 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il gave field guidance to the newly-built Kuchang Youth Power Station on the Kumjin River and the Tongbong Co-op Farm in Hamju County.

The first leg of his guidance was the newly-built Kuchang Youth Power Station on the Kumjin River.

After being briefed on the power station before a map showing its panoramic view, he looked round the generator room, dam and other places of the power station to acquaint himself in detail with the construction, technical equipment and the production of electricity.

Saying that the Kumjin River whose water flowed unused has turned into a river bringing happiness to the people and a river harnessed for producing electricity, he expressed great satisfaction over the fact that another splendid structure in the era of Songun was built in Jongphyong County.

Great structures are towering in every part of the country one after another this year which witnesses radical turns thanks to the do-or-die fighting spirit of the people who flatten at one go even a high mountain and empty even a sea, when requested by the WPK to do so, bringing joy and confidence to the people, he said, adding that this breath in the stirring times is an expression of the inexhaustible mental power of the people to build a thriving nation at any cost by their own efforts and with locally available resources.

He looked at the book recording the shining feats performed by members of the Kumjingang Youth Shock Brigade in Jongphyong County over the past 20 years since its organization and a collection of poems written by them and listened some of the many beautiful stories among young people, highly praising them for having made their worthwhile youth-hood rewarding.

He underlined the need to successfully operate the power station so that the population of the county may sufficiently benefit from it.

He had a photo session with the members of the youth shock brigade and other builders.

Looking at substitute for firewood, feed for domestic animals and micro-organic fertilizer developed by the county itself, he learned in detail about the research and its use in the county and appreciated efforts made by leading officials in the county.

The next leg of his guidance was the Tongbong Cooperative Farm in Hamju County.

He went round various places including a mechanized workteam and a store for seed potato and saw varieties of crops produced by the farm to acquaint himself in detail with the farming this year.

Feasting his eyes on many cozy modern houses at the foot of a mountain and a vast expanse of standardized fields, he said that the farm has turned into a model farm for farming on the east coast, a socialist land of bliss where all kinds of crops and fruits are harvested. He added that this epoch-making change that has taken place in the land of Tongbong is a striking proof of the advantages of the socialist rural economy system in the country based on collectivism.

He repeatedly sent high appreciation and thanks to all members of the farm. He gave newly-produced tractors to it as gifts in recognition of the feats performed by it.

The basic factor of the farm's rapid boost of the agricultural production in recent years was its thorough implementation of the policy of the green revolution, he said, underlining the need to continue dynamically pushing forward the work to introduce superior strains suited to the climatic and natural features of the farm by giving full play to the creative ingenuity of the officials and other agricultural workers.

He said that the experience gained by different farms including the above-said farm clearly proves that the shortcut to satisfactorily settling the food shortage under the conditions of the country where the area of cultivated land is limited is to thoroughly implement the party's policy of double cropping. He called for further developing the double cropping to suit the topographical features on the basis of the above-mentioned success.

Saying that a basic way of sharply increasing the grain production is to definitely boost the per-hectare yield, he stressed that to this end it is necessary to ceaselessly increase the production of organic composite fertilizer to steadily improve the fertility of soil and, at the same time, put farming on a scientific and technological basis as required by the Juche-oriented farming method.

It is good for the farm to briskly conduct the work to turn the village into a socialist land of bliss, he noted, underlining the need to dynamically accelerate the rural construction in order to turn the farm into people's fairyland.

He was accompanied by Thae Jong Su, chief secretary of the South Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the WPK, Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK and Pak Nam Gi and Jang Song Thaek, department directors of the C.C., WPK.
