Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- The Korean Central News Agency Monday issued a detailed report on the heroic feats the creators of the "Huichon Speed" have performed by dynamically waging a general offensive through the display of the spirit of unconditionally carrying out the policies of the Workers' Party of Korea, patriotic devotion and the might of single-minded unity and thereby adorning the nation's history with great events. According to it, the power station is the largest-ever in scale and the volume of the work to be done among the power stations that have sprung up over the last more than two decades and its builders, accordingly, resolved to complete this gigantic nature-remaking project in a matter of three years under any circumstances, the project which would take more than ten years at ordinary pace. Servicepersons of the People's Army and builders are simultaneously pushing forward the construction of two huge dams, waterway tunnels with a total length of more than scores of kilometers, roads and power stations, etc. in vast areas extending dozens of kms. Groundwork for dams was wound up in the main in a matter of five months after the groundbreaking though it would have taken several years at ordinary pace, paving the way for full-scale dam building. Concrete tamping of Korean style made progress in three dimensions, boosting the speed of tamping at dams more than six times. This led to creating a fresh speed in the drive for effecting a great surge. Soldier-builders succeeded in bringing winches and compressors, weighing several hundreds of tons in total, to sloping areas more than 45 degrees by displaying popular heroism in an effort to complete the project at the earliest possible date. With the introduction of new technologies steady signal successes have been made in the tunneling. As a result, the tunneling of a pit with a total length of almost 6 kms has reached its final phase and the building of almost all the main waterway tunnels is going full steam ahead. The soldier-builders engaged in the construction of Huichon Power Station No. 1 and a waterway tunnel became the first to drive through the main waterway tunnel in their charge on October 29. Officials, working people and young people from different parts of the country volunteered to work there, creating "Huichon time" in every work site by racing against time. It was hard, indeed, from the outset to build a road along the Toyang Ridge 1,500 meters above the sea level despite the extremely unfavorable natural conditions. Members of the shock brigade have removed more than 103,000 cubic meters of earth and over 54,000 cubic meters of rock and successfully carried out such projects as building more than 38,000 cubic meters of retaining walls, 90 culverts and dozens of bridges through their heroic endeavors. As a result, they completed the road construction in a matter of just 12 days which would have taken more than three years at ordinary pace. The introduction of advanced science and technology has greatly contributed to the creation of the "Huichon Speed". A powerful technical force made up of scientists and technicians from scientific and educational institutions and industrial establishments has settled problems arising in the projects their own way. General Secretary Kim Jong Il revisited Huichon in September last and called the rare construction speed created through leap forward and innovations effected every second and minute the "Huichon Speed," a new Chollima speed based on the revolutionary soldier spirit. This is an expression of his profound trust in the servicepersons and people in the DPRK glorifying the era of the great surge. Still arduous is the way before the builders of the above-said power station determined to complete the gigantic nature-remaking project in Huichon by 2012, the centenary of birth of President |
