"Album of Plants in Area of Paektusan Secret Camp"

Pyongyang, November 27 (KCNA) -- The book "Album of Plants in Area of Paektusan Secret Camp" has been recently published in the DPRK. The book carries more than 60 photos of plants growing in the area of the Paektusan secret camp including Jong Il Peak, Mt. Sobaek and Saja Peak. It also includes photos of newly-found useful plants in the genus of Rhodiola elongate, pine-nut tree which has been known as one growing in areas below 1,600 metres above the sea level and other newly-found plants, plants in danger of extinction and rare plants and useful plants of great significance vegetating in the area. The data of the book are some of the landscape ecological data collected by teachers and researchers of the Life Science Faculty of Kim Il Sung University in the course of evaluating the bio-diversity and carrying on researches into protecting and proliferating useful fauna and flora in the Mt. Paektu area in the period from Juche 91 (2002) to Juche 97 (2008). The book will help readers get better knowledge of plants flourishing in the area of the Paektusan secret camp and protect and manage them well. |
