Successes in Preserving Historical Relics
Pyongyang, December 3 (KCNA) -- Efforts for preserving historical relics and remains have been made successfully in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

In this autumn alone, seven old forts and over 70 tombs have been reportedly restored to the original state, natural monuments preserved in their origin and ancient buildings and facilities for preserving culture repaired or newly installed in some 1,170 places and more than 130,000 trees of good species planted in beauty spots and historical sites throughout the country.

As part of efforts to turn Sokam, a scenic spot, in Phyongwon County, South Phyongan Province into a better sight-seeing resort, a more than 1,000 meters long embankment project and the construction of a lake of 250 square meters have been finished successfully in a short period of time. And a large number of trees have been planted there.

Streams in Phaldam and Tanphung ravines in Mt. Kuwol in South Hwanghae Province have been revetted well. In North Hwanghae Province, the house of preserving a dinosaur's fossil footprints and the Thaebaeksan Fort have been restored or reconstructed in Phyongsan County and the Pogwang Pavilion of the Simwon Temple in Yonthan County repainted in red and blue colors to change the appearance of the relic.

In Kangwon Province the Pulji Temple in Kumgang County has been restored on a large scale and Sagi Stream flowing in front of the Sokwang Temple readjusted in a qualitative way to prevent flood damage.

In South Hamgyong Province the main building and Pogwang Pavilion of the Kwangje Temple in Pukchong County and the Pulji Temple in Yonggwang County have had their roofs, walls, floors, doors and other parts of the buildings repaired and repainted colorfully to suit the characteristics of historical buildings.

The campaign for preserving historical relics and remains organized in the country every year serves as an occasion for maintaining nationality and implanting a strong sense of patriotism into the hearts of the people.
