Red-and-blue Paintings Preserved
Pyongyang, December 10 (KCNA) -- Efforts for preserving red-and-blue paintings, a valuable heritage of the Korean nation, in their origin have been made in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Red-and-blue painting is a kind of decorative art used in construction of wooden buildings in Korea from olden times.

Under the direction of the government, all the colorful paintings across the country have been preserved or restored to their original state with Popun Temple in Mt. Ryongak as a model.

The colorful painting of Kwangje Temple in Pukchong, Simwon Temple in Yonthan, Yongpha Pavilion in Huichon and other historic relics has already been completed in conformity with the principle of fidelity to historical truth and scientific requirements to be followed by other relics throughout the country.

Meanwhile, such scientific activities as short course and symposium have been held on the subject of preserving paintings well for many years.

They have been participated in by specialists from the Cultural Relics Conservation Guidance Bureau, the Academy of Social Sciences, Pyongyang University of Construction and Building-Materials Industry, Koryo Fine Arts Studio and leading institutes of national architecture.

The Korean Cultural Preservation Agency has summarized materials concerning the newly-found original state of several hundred pieces of old colorful painting patterns and, based on it, had on-the-spot discussions on trial colorful paintings with researchers concerned.
