Kim Jong Il Inspects Pyongyang Cornstarch Factory
Pyongyang, December 11 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il provided field guidance to the updated Pyongyang Cornstarch Factory.

He went round the monument to the on-the-spot instructions given by President Kim Il Sung, the monument to his field guidance, the room for the education in the revolutionary history and the room devoted to the history of the factory, conducted by leading officials of the factory.

Kim Il Sung provided field guidance to the factory 15 times since he paid his first visit to the factory on September 24, 1945 right after he liberated the country and made his triumphant return home, clearly indicating the road to be followed by it.

After looking back with deep emotion on the glorious path covered by the factory in its development, Kim Jong Il said that the factory has turned into a large food processing center under the wise leadership and deep care of the President.

Then he went round different shops to learn in detail about the updating of the factory and production there.

He praised the workers of the factory for having completed the updating by their own efforts in a short span of time and waged a dynamic drive for increasing the production of foodstuff including varieties of confectionary meeting the taste of people.

The factory has an important role to play for improving the diet of the citizens, he said, setting forth important tasks which would serve as guidelines for managing and operating the factory.

Whether the citizens of Pyongyang are supplied with greater quantities of confectionary and other foodstuff or not entirely depends on the role of the factory, he noted, adding that the most important task facing the factory is to realize the modernization and scientification of the production processes at a high level.

Noting that many factories and enterprises in Jagang and North Phyongan Provinces and other areas of the country are now advancing at a rapid tempo by successfully putting their production on a CNC basis and pushing back the frontiers of science, he put forth militant tasks to be fulfilled by the factory to wind up its modernization in the shortest possible time as required by the IT age.

In order to turn the factory into a modern model foodstuff factory based on the latest science and technology, officials and technicians of the factory should plan any work in a big way and dynamically push ahead with it with an innovative eye and, at the same time, Kim Chaek University of Technology and other universities and scientific research institutions should help them in the work in a responsible manner from the standpoint of a master, he urged.

He pointed out that in order to keep the production going at a high rate it is necessary to take thorough measures for the supply of raw materials, specifying the orientation and ways to do so.

He earnestly called on the officials, workers and technicians of the factory to satisfactorily perform their honorable mission to provide the people with a more plentiful life at an early date.

He was accompanied by Choe Yong Rim, chief secretary of the Pyongyang City Committee of the WPK, Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the WPK Central Committee, and Kim Kyong Hui, Pak Nam Gi and Jang Song Thaek, department directors of the C.C., the WPK, and Pak Myong Son, vice-premier of the Cabinet.
