Japanese Gov. Urged to Shape New DPRK Policy
Pyongyang, December 12 (KCNA) -- Representatives of the Liaison Council for Demanding Denuclearization and Peace in Northeast Asia and Normalization of the Relations between Japan and the DPRK which consists of Japanese civic organizations and figures of social strata submitted a letter of request to the Foreign Ministry of Japan urging the government to make a new decision on its DPRK policy on Dec. 1.

They in the letter expressed concern over the talks for the normalization of bilateral relations that have made no progress till today even though seven years have passed since the adoption of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration. They criticized the former government of the Liberal Democratic Party for having pursued the hostile policy toward the DPRK and urged the new government to actively come forth for the negotiations with the DPRK now that new phase is being opened in the situation of the Korean Peninsula.

They also urged the Japanese government to clarify the need to resume the talks for the normalization of bilateral relations based on the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration, express once again at the government level the stand of Japan ready to make apology for and repentance of its colonial rule in 2010, the centenary of the fabrication of the "Korea-Japan Annexation Treaty", resume the humanitarian assistance to the DPRK, stop the suppression of the Koreans in Japan and take a measure to ensure their rights.
