Story of Kim Il Sung

Pyongyang, December 14 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung visited a mine in North Phyongan Province on a hot day of late July, Juche 38 (1949). The open mine, panning out iron ore from river sands, found itself in a very critical condition with no proper tools, severely damaged by the Japanese imperialists when they were being defeated in the war. It was at lunch time when the President reached a panning place. There were no people working there but only their poor tools. He, suggesting iron ore panning, walked on hot sands towards the riverside. Despite the attendant officials' repeated requests for him not to do such a work in the sultry day, he took a spade to dig out sands and put them into a pan, saying that miners had always done it in such a condition. He then shook the pan to wash for iron ore. After extracting a large amount of iron ore together with officials, he went out of the river wiping sweat off his forehead. President Kim Il Sung gave the officials a precious instruction to the following effect before leaving the mine: Panning out iron ore in the river looks easy but the diggers must feel a severe backache from many hours of work. We should have this work done with the help of machines at an early date so as to make it easy and, at the same time, increase the iron ore production necessary for the prosperity of the country. |
