Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) -- A national memorial service for O Jung Hup, a revolutionary fighter, took place at the People's Palace of Culture on Thursday on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of his death. Present there were senior party, army and state officials, the chairman of a friendly party, officials of party, armed forces and power organs, public organizations, ministries and national institutions, servicepersons of the Korean People's Army, bereaved family members of revolutionary martyrs and working people in the city. O Jung Hup, born into the poorest peasant family in Onsong County, North Hamgyong Province, devotedly defended the headquarters of the revolution from the very day he embarked upon the road of anti-Japanese revolution. He died a heroic death in the Liukesong battle in Dunhua County on December 17, Juche 28 (1939) in the period of the large-unit circling operation in the northeastern part of Mt. Paektu while displaying matchless self-sacrificing spirit in the struggle for materializing the idea, line and operational plan of President Kim Il Sung. O was 29 at that time. General of the KPA Kim Jong Gak, member of the DPRK National Defence Commission and first vice director of the General Political Bureau of the KPA, in his memorial address said that brief as his life was, O Jung Hup's life was a worthwhile one as he taught from what stand and attitude the revolutionaries should uphold and devotedly defend their leader and how they should live and struggle for the party, the revolution, the country and its people. Recalling that O Jung Hup made long journeys for bloody anti-Japanese battles like a phoenix, his heart burning with the determination to protect the headquarters of the revolution despite manifold hardships and trials baffling human imagination, Kim Jong Gak stressed that O's exploits always remain shining in the history of the Korean revolution as a distinguished example in devotedly defending the leader. The speaker went on: Much water has flown under the bridge since O's death but Kim Il Sung highly estimated his feats, not forgetting the departed soldier. He wrote about O's life in his Reminiscences, making it shine, and took utmost care of the O family and the only child of the fighter with fatherly love. General Secretary Kim Jong Il said O was a typical revolutionary soldier who remained intensely loyal to the President and a vanguard fighter who protected him at the risk of his life, the speaker noted, adding that the leader made sure that his bust was erected at the Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery on Mt. Taesong and the KPA units waged the Movement for Winning the Title of O Jung Hup-led 7th Regiment. Kim Jong Gak called upon all the servicepersons and people to defend Kim Jong Il politically and ideologically and with their lives in any adversity just as the revolutionary forerunners created the heroic epic of devotedly defending the leader in the course of long journeys of bloody anti-Japanese battles and become fighters devotedly protecting the leader in the Songun era who share idea, will and destiny with the headquarters of the revolution. |
