Pyongyang, December 22 (KCNA) -- A historic monument has newly been placed on show in the Hamhung History Museum. The 2.8-ton monument, which had been erected in front of the Changui Temple in 1721 in memory of 12 volunteer army commanders who distinguished themselves in the Imjin Patriotic War (1592-1598) against Japanese invaders, is one of the valuable historic relics in Korea. The monument has an inscription saying the Changui Temple is a place dedicated to memorial services for those who devoted their lives to the country during the Imjin Patriotic War. As history shows, it is a very difficult thing to remain faithful to principles and duty but praiseworthily, the twelve fought for justice at the cost of their lives to be still remembered, it says, adding: We, with deep reverence for them, erect a monument in front of the temple and engrave three big letters "Chang-ui-sa (Changui Temple)" on it. |
