Present there were senior party, army and state officials, the chairpersons of the friendly parties, officials of the party, armed forces, power organs, public organizations, working people's organizations, ministries and national institutions, servicepersons of the KPA, officials in the fields of science, education, culture and arts, public health and media and working people in Pyongyang.

KPA General Ri Yong Ho, chief of the General Staff of the KPA, said in a report delivered at the meeting that Kim Jong Il's assumption of the supreme commandership of the KPA on December 24, Juche 80 (1991) marked a historic event of weighty significance in strengthening and developing the revolutionary armed forces in the DPRK and accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche.

The reporter went on:

Kim Jong Il's assumption of the supreme commandership of the KPA helped more steadfastly carry forward the glorious history and tradition of the Korean revolution in which it was started and has triumphed with arms of independence and enabled the army and the people of the DPRK to steadily advance the socialist cause of Juche, meeting the challenges of the imperialist reactionaries with the might of Songun.

Kim Jong Il has energetically led the struggle to implement the party's military line of self-defence and develop the national defence industry, bolstering up the KPA as a-match-for-a hundred revolutionary army with matchless combat capability, placing all the people under arms and turning the whole country into an invulnerable fortress.

The reporter referred to the fact that the KPA has emerged the strongest army in idea and faith as it regards the spirit of devotedly defending the leader as its life and soul and grown to be invincible revolutionary armed forces having tremendous offensive and defensive means, winning one victory after another in the fierce confrontation with imperialism and the DPRK has demonstrated to the whole world the dignity and honor, prestige and might as a country which manufactured and launched satellites and a full-fledged nuclear weapons state.

The reporter called for building a thriving socialist nation as early as possible with the might of Songun and bringing earlier the day of national reunification and the final victory of the revolutionary cause of Juche.

Acute confrontation is prevailing on the Korean Peninsula due to the moves of the U.S. and its followers to ignite a new war, he noted, and warned: If the U.S. and its followers intrude into the sky, land and sea of the DPRK even an inch and dare disturb the legitimate exercise of its sovereignty, its revolutionary armed forces will mercilessly destroy the stronghold of aggression with unpredictable retaliatory blows, no matter who they may be and wherever they are on earth, and surely achieve the independent reunification of the country, the cherished desire of the nation.
