An obituary of Ri Chol Bong was issued in the joint name of the WPK Central Committee and the Presidium of the SPA of the DPRK on Friday.

According to it, Ri Chol Bong was a faithful revolutionary soldier of the WPK who dedicated himself to the accomplishment of the revolutionary cause of Juche true to the leadership of the party and the leader.

Born in a revolutionary's family during the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule, he grew up under its revolutionary influence. After the liberation of the country he grew to be an able official under the care of President Kim Il Sung and devotedly worked for the development of the WPK and the revolutionary armed forces and the prosperity of the socialist homeland.

During the Fatherland Liberation War he bravely fought with arms in hand. He contributed to increasing the combat capability of the revolutionary armed forces, working at an important post of the Korean People's Army during socialist construction.

In the period when a dynamic drive was under way for modeling the whole society on the Juche idea he devoted all his wisdom and enthusiasm to the victory in the great campaign for socialist construction, holding important posts in the fields of transport, city administration and building materials industry.

He held the posts of minister and director of the political bureau of the people's security organ, vice department director of the WPK Central Committee, minister of City Administration and director of the Political Bureau of the Ministry of Railways from early in the 1980s. In recent years he worked as chief secretary of the Kangwon Provincial Committee of the WPK.

He worked as an official of the leading organ of the WPK Central Committee and a deputy to the SPA for years. He was awarded Order of Kim Il Sung and many other state commendations for his exploits performed for the country and the revolution.

Thoroughly armed with the Juche idea, Songun idea of the WPK, he remained intensely loyal to the leadership of the party to the last moments of his life.
