Gift from Japanese Botanist
Pyongyang, January 9 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il was presented with rare plants as a gift by Mototeru Kamo, prominent Japanese botanist and famous horticulturist, on the occasions of the New Year and the February holiday.

The plants belong to Begonia hiemalis cv. and Bougainvillea spectabilis cv.

Begonia hiemalis, succulent grass plant, has a straight stalk and is crisscrossed with round leaves.

This beautiful plant has five or six flowers and comes into bloom in various colors, red, yellow and white according to its species.

The Bougainvillea spectabilis belongs to the family of four-o'clock and is evergreen as half vinery. What is peculiar is that a yellow flower is covered with three floral bracts which look like flower leaves.

The floral bracts have the shape of eggs about 2.5 cm in length and have diverse colors, pink, purple and white according to species.

Kim Jong Il was presented with such rare plants as Nelumbo nucifera cv. Makotobasu and others by Mototeru Kamo in the past.
