Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- It was in September Juche 36 (1947) that anti-Japanese heroine Kim Jong Suk was staying in Kyongsong County, North Hamgyong Province. One day she, together with officials of the county, climbed a mountain deep along a ravine to pick wild grapes and other wild fruits. She asked the officials how many people had frequented the mountain to pick such wild fruits. They replied that most of the peasants, so busy with farming, had found no spare time to climb deep mountains so that they had usually gathered wild fruits at the foot of nearby mountains. Saying that mountain people should take a measure for making a proper use of mountains, she gave advice to the officials to gather wild fruits abundant in the area in time to make wine and various foodstuffs for peasants and towns. She said President Kim Il Sung had been concerned about the people's living which had not yet been bettered even after the liberation of the country. She then quoted him as saying that the country's natural resources should be fully utilized in order to improve the people's living as early as possible. She also said when the people in mountain villages did both farming and sidelines well as the President taught, they could enhance their living standard soon. Listening to what she said, the officials realized the reason why she climbed the high and rugged mountain. |
