Pyongyang, January 14 (KCNA) -- The joint New Year editorial of leading newspapers of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea says that the key to making a fresh leap forward in this year's general offensive is to launch a vigorous campaign for pushing back the frontiers of science and technology in all sectors. In response to the joint editorial the scientific and research institutes have put spurs to their work from the beginning of the year. In particular, the branch academies of light industrial science and biology and the academy of agricultural science are directing their efforts to solving scientific and technological problems arising at light industry factories and co-op farms and introducing already-made research findings into practice. Scientists and technicians in the branch academy of railway engineering and institutes of control machinery and heat engineering, etc. are pushing ahead with ambitious and large projects for developing such important technological domains as mechanical, metal and heat engineering rapidly. Many of them have visited factories and enterprises to help them enhance their own abilities to develop new technologies and products by bringing science and technology close to production. The mass technological innovation movement has been invigorated at factories and enterprises. Scientists and technicians, with a firm resolution to fully discharge their responsibility and duty in the current general offensive for improvement of the people's living standard, are concentrating their effort on rapidly developing core technologies, technical engineering of major sectors and basic science with a correct strategy for the development of science and technology as required by the 21st century. |
