Replacement of AA with Peace Treaty Called for
|

Pyongyang, January 19 (KCNA) -- It is quite natural and right from a logical point of view that the Foreign Ministry of the DPRK proposed to the parties to the Armistice Agreement an early start of the talks for replacing the AA with a peace treaty. Rodong Sinmun Tuesday says this in a signed article. It goes on: This is a very reasonable and flexible proposal as it takes the demands of the U.S. and other parties concerned into full consideration and reflects them in a bid to convince them. The equilibrium of strength and the balance of forces on the Korean Peninsula and in its vicinity go to prove that the key to solving the problem lies in putting an end to the hostile relations and the state of war between the DPRK and the U.S. Talks can be smoothly opened and the issue of denuclearization can find a successful solution only when positive efforts are made to create a peaceful environment by wiping out bilateral distrust and pooling will. A priority task is to conclude a peace treaty. The conclusion of a peace treaty would provide a master key to solving all the pending problems. The issue of concluding a peace treaty can be settled by changing the order of action as required by the practice just as mentioned in the September 19 Joint Statement. It is beyond any doubt that the conclusion of the peace treaty would help terminate the hostile relations between the DPRK and the U.S. and facilitate the process for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula at a rapid tempo. Ill-natured diatribes are now being made by some quarters to play down the validity and significance of the DPRK's proposal. This is nothing but a dishonest behavior to throw a wet blanket over the efforts to achieve peace, stability and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. It will be quite possible to achieve peace, stability and denuclearization of the peninsula if the parties to the AA no longer prioritize their interests but make a bold decision to deal with the fundamental issue such as war and peace without delay and put it into practice, concludes the article. |
