The statement referred to the fact that the statements of the DPRK Foreign Ministry and its spokesman were released on Jan. 11 and 18, adding that it is necessary to conclude a peace treaty, to begin with, to terminate the state of war, the root cause of hostile relations between the DPRK and the U.S., in order to build confidence between the two sides.

The denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula is the goal of the policy the DPRK government has consistently pursued to contribute to ensuring peace and security in Northeast Asia and making the world nuclear-free and the statements of the DPRK Foreign Ministry and its spokesman were another clear manifestation of the sincere efforts of the DPRK for peace and security on the peninsula, the statement noted.

It said that the party fully supports the above said statements, expressing belief that the talks for concluding a peace treaty for building confidence and terminating cease-fire between the DPRK and the U.S. would start as soon as possible.
