Osvaldo Pesce, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Unified Communist Party of Italy, and Mauro Cazadio, general secretary of the Struggle for the Peace and Socialism of Italy, were elected co-chairmen of the Italian preparatory committee and Garib Newaz, president of the Bangladesh People's League, was elected chairman of the Bangladeshi preparatory committee at the inaugural ceremonies.

The preparatory committees decided to hold colorful political and cultural events on the occasion of the birthday of General Secretary Kim Jong Il.
